Apakah yang dimaksud dengan problem-solving? Bagaimana problem-solving diterapkan? Problem-solving biasanya sering dikaitkan dengan pembelajaran matematika. Pelajaran matematika yang dicap oleh masyarakat sebagai matapelajaran yang sulit karena tingkat kesulitan dalam berhitung, namun sering ditampik oleh para pendidik yang bergerak di bidang tersebut bahwa matematika tidak hanya berhubungan dengan hitung menghitung, namun juga mengenai logika berfikir, berimajinasi, dan dapat diterapkan dalam kehidupan sehari-hari. Lalu, gambaran mengenai matematika yang hanya berhubungan dengan hitung menghitung dinilai bahwa itu hanya dapat mengasah ketajaman berhitung seseorang, yang pada akhirnya para ahli matematika mencari pemikiran baru yang menggambarkan bahwa matematika dapat menghasilkan pembelajar yang lebih dari pada hanya memilki ketajaman dalam berhitung, yaitu pemecahan masalah – problem-solving.

Problem solving becomes one of important things in teaching and learning. By using problem solving in teaching and learning regularly, it challenges students’ ways of thinking and sharps student’s logical thinking. Problem solving doesn’t always mean giving some real-life problems to the students because not all of real-life problem are problem solving. For example, “Rudy has 6 apples, and then he wants to distribute those apples to three of his friends, how many apples of each friend will get?” In my opinion, those problem is not a problem solving because we only need to divide 6 by 3, and then we will get 2 as the answer.

         If I just make a conclusion from this article, I think the heuristic method is not a new method in problem solving. What have been explained in this article are the steps in solving the problem which is started by understanding the problem, and then finding all the given information, and link it on the what question about, and then just continue the process to get the solution.

       However, may be the key point is on the “systimatical method” in doing problem solving. Moreover, George Polya created a book entitled “A new aspect of the mathematical method", and it will show the reader how to beat the problem solving in the new way. So, heuristics is just a “systematic method” and the methods is contained in George Polya’s book.
